File: Conversion method for PDF to JPG.txt Date: 2024-08-19 Auth: Barry Hansen, barry@k7bwh.com Dave Funk WA7RSO scanned his 1924 Radio Callbook into individual PDF files. We wish to publish them on the web as normal image files. The problem being solved is that a big pile of single PDF files have no practical way to navigate from page-to-page sequentially. Adobe assumes that books and magazines like this will be made into a single very large PDF file. My process is to use Photoshop to convert PDF to PNG. Then use Lightroom to convert PNG to JPG. We chose this after comparing to Pixillon software, and with Photoshop-export-JPG. The advantage is Lightroom has bulk processing, good file size, saves EXIF metadata, and easy image rotation. Conversion method and settings: * Original source PDF: w:\solutions-for-education \ EDWAY_Topics \ 1924-Radio-Callbook * Photoshop * Open each PDF file one by one * Rotate, if necessary * File > Quick export as PNG * Target folder: C:\MyMavica\2020s\2024\2024 Ham Radio\2024-08 Dave Funk 1924 Callbook * Do not save PSD file because each one is large (~12 MB) * Lightroom * Synchronize catalog for the PNG folder * File > Export > JPG to Send 1600 * Image format: JPG * Quality: 61 * Resize to fit 1600 x 1600, resolution 72 * Sharpen: screen, standard * Target folder: w:\solutions-for-education \ EDWAY_Topics \ 1924-Radio-Callbook \ img * Typical file size 300 KB
